Hi! My name is Vili and I am an award-winning writer-director from Finland, currently based in London.
In 2023 I wrote, directed, and produced my first short film, Grandmaster. Grandmaster was accepted to the BIFA-Qualifying Brighton Rocks International Film Festival where it won an award for "Best Young Performance" and I was a runner-up for the "Young Ace Filmmaker" award. In the years following, Grandmaster was accepted to a number of other festivals where it picked up further awards and became BIFA-Qualified.
I followed Grandmaster up with Doubt in 2024 and Cod in 2025. Doubt also premiered at Brighton Rocks and still continues its festival journey. Cod won the award for "Best Cinematography" and was a runner-up for "Best Film" at the 2025 Brighton 48h Film Challenge. My next short film, The Doctor Will See You Know, will shoot in Summer 2026.
In addition to short film, I am pitching two feature-length projects. Sunburn is set in Finland and tells the story of 14-year-old Finn Willis whose young life spirals after he is diagnosed with cancer. Spotlight is set in the United Kingdom and tells the story of Joshua Hall, a has-been actor who forms a dangerous love affair with an up-and-coming actress. A third micro-budget feature, The Island, is currently in development for an early 2027 shoot in the United Kingdom.
